A Michigan-based tech company has developed a system that allows coaches to collect real-time performance data on their swimmers, the New York Times reports.Avidasports LLCs system outfits swimmers with five wireless sensors--worn on the omega Seamaster Diver Series watches head, wrists and feet--that measure acceleration. The data is sent to a laptop that kicks out metrics like pace, stroke count, stroke tempo, and distance per stroke. The head sensor is connected to an earpiece that allows coaches to communicate with swimmers. The system currently costs $14,950, while a single set of sensors costs an additional $399. So far, Michael Phelps former training pool at the University of Michigan is the only program to purchase the system.--Erin Beresini.
